Readers, I need your advice. Somehow my husband and I failed to notice that my son, who turns four tomorrow, has outgrown his tricycle. We're wondering what to get him next, one of those cool euro walking bikes (a.k.a. push bike, balance bike, running bike), or a good old fashioned Huffy-type bike with training wheels.
Honestly, he's not the most athletic. He's coordinated enough, but lets just say

we never took the oh-so-handy push bar off the back of his tricycle since he never liked to put enough "oomph" into pedaling up the hills. He's rather be pushed.
It seems like the walking bike would help him with his balancing while the bike

with pedals would help him, well, with pedaling. He'll be riding on paved neighborhood streets with some moderate hills and some flat areas. We're also wondering which he could control more when zooming downhill, which he loves.
Readers, what are your experiences with walking bikes vs. bikes with training wheels for preschool-aged kids? Are any types of walking bikes or training wheel bikes that are better than others?
